New England Week of Golf 2021 - after Day 2
The first day of the 2021 New England Week of Golf was held at Inverell on Monday under ideal conditions. This was a two-ball competition and was won by Karen and Ken Thompson from Bundaberg with 46 points. Second and third places were taken by Carmen and John Palmer from Randwick with 45 points and Dianne and Greg Voss from the Gold Coast with 44 points. The ladies’ section was won by Jenny Johnston and Carol Hawkins with 39 points while the men’s section was won by Col Darby and Bob Watson with 44 points.
The glorious conditions continued on Tuesday. This was the first day of the two-day championship which concludes on Thursday after a rest day on Wednesday. Daily competition are also being held for Tuesday and Thursday with two divisions in the ladies and three divisions in the men’s section.
Best in each division for Tuesday were Sandy Cook, 38 points, and Kaye Murdoch, 37 points in Division 1 ladies and Meg Whitby and Helen Stephenson, 31 points, in Division 2.
Dick Fuller, 36 points, was best in Division 1 ahead of 3 others on 35. Greg Gardner, 35 points, was best in Division 2 followed by Alan Gees with 34. Phillip Lumby, 37 points, finished first in Division 3, ahead of Ross Bartlett, 36.
At this stage in the two-day medal, local, Sandy Cook leads the ladies with 38 points, just ahead of Kaye Murdoch from Grafton with 37 points.
Phillip Lumby from Toukley leads the men with 37 points. Ross Bartlett from Muree and Dick Fuller from Byron Bay are one shot behind with 36 points.
All competitors agreed that the Inverell Golf Course was the winner on the day with it being a great test of golfing ability.
